Frank, I felt the same. Then I found java chess - not so strong, but strong enough to play with. Sometimes I beat them :)
well don't play it at its top level , it has handicap levels, your dabbling with a program capable of playing grandmaster strength.i find it brilliant, play it against other programs. or turn the strength down, human chess is better though, i know what you mean.engines more so you ones don't make blunders, makes you respect he odd grandmaster that's beat one doesn't it
Shredder is awesome. I love playing it. I agree with you. Even though it thrashes me most of the time, it still proves to be an effective program in improving your chess.
I love playing shredder. I can beat it on easy and medium, but it always beats me on hard. It really improves tour play.
i have beaten in hard level also

The trouble is, I don't enjoy playing Shredder at all. I used to be a very keen if not particularly brilliant chess player. I used to play every day on FICS and sometimes I pulled off extraordinary wins which made my day, though usually I was overwhelmed by a strong player who knew all the ins and outs. Shredder thrashes me every time, I have no chance and I no longer play chess anywhere with humans.
The program has totally demoralised me.
